Of the 12 wrestlers earning Scholar All-American
honors, eight were All-Americans at the 2003 National Championships
last weekend (Cleary, Kurth, South, Black, Meyers, Bratland, Ryan
Sturm, Mark Sturm).
To be eligible for NWCA Scholar All-American honors,
the student-athlete must have a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the
previous, full academic year and must have placed at the national
qualifying tournament (at least fourth if the national qualifying
tournament is a Conference tournament, or at least sixth for the
NECCWA and IIAC or if the national qualifying tournament is a regional
tournament). If the student-athlete did not qualify for the National
meet, he compete in two-thirds of the school’s total scheduled NCAA
sanctioned events and have a winning percentage of at least 67 percent.
