MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . Eleven
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes
were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Central
Region Team earlier this week. Loras College pitcher Cory
Schultz (East Dubuque, Ill./East Dubuque HS), the Iowa
Conference MVP, and Wartburg College shortstop Jay Whannel
(Traer, Iowa/North Tama HS) were both named to the ABCA
All-Central Region First Team.
Six IIAC players were named to the Second Team
– Wartburg pitcher Patrick Smith (Lawler, Iowa/Turkey
Valley HS), Warburg catcher Brian Greiner (Des
Moines, Iowa/Lincoln HS), Cornell College first baseman Paul
John Zobeck (Soldotna, Alaska/Soldotna HS), Wartburg third
baseman Joel Reynolds (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley
HS), Wartburg outfielder Ryan Mix (Mason City,
Iowa/Mason City HS) and Simpson College utility player Mike
Donnenwerth (Sheffield, Iowa/SCMT HS).
Earning Third Team All-Region honors were Cornell
pitcher Ryan Rosenberg (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson
HS), Wartburg pitcher Chris Goerdt (Dyersville,
Iowa/Western Dubuque HS) and Cornell catcher Ian Harden
(Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS).
