CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) crowned champions in five individual flights (three singles and two doubles) on Saturday at the Conference men’s tennis Individual Flighted Tournament. The Conference also announced the 2005 IIAC men’s tennis All-Conference Team. The Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year will be announced next week.

In Flight A Singles, Coe’s Ryan Yao defeated Central’s Nick Cochrane (6-4, 6-0) in the Championship Match. Coe’s Jeff White defeated Luther’s Jared Wiklund (7-5, 6-4) in the third-place match. In the semifinals, Yao defeated Wiklund (6-1, 6-0) and Cochrane defeated White (7-5, 6-4).

In Flight B Singles, Central’s Andrew Busscher defeated Coe’s Aaron Neiderhiser (7-6(4), 7-6(4)) in the Championship Match. Wartburg’s Nick Wuertz defeated teammate Matt Connell (6-0, 6-0) in the third-place match. In the semifinals, Busscher defeated Wuertz (6-2, 6-4) and Neiderhiser defeated Connell (6-0, 6-2).

In Flight C Singles, Central’s Mike Hammond defeated Luther’s Zach Nordby (7-5, 6-2) in the Championship Match. Wartburg’s Mitch Coffman defeated Central’s Justin Scherff (6-2, 6-3) in the third-place match. In the semifinals, Hammond defeated Scherff (6-2, 7-6 (7-5)) and Nordby defeated Coffman (6-0, 5-7, 12-10).

In Flight A Doubles, Luther’s Jono Martin/Brad Nelson defeated Central’s Nick Cochrane/Aaron Enderlin (8-6) in the Championship Match. Central’s Ryan Dierks/Jason Ford defeated Coe’s Ryan Krabbe/Jeff White (9-7) in the third-place match. In the semifinals, Martin/Nelson defeated Krabbe/White (8-1) and Cochrane/Enderlin defeated Dierks/Ford (9-8 (4)).

In Flight B Doubles, Luther’s Derek Hoffman/Isaac White defeated teammates Travis Strickler/Jordan Wiklund (8-5) in the Championship Match. Central’s Devin Bates/James Smith defeated teammates Chris Bliss/Ryan Ooms (9-7) in the third-place match. In the semifinals, Strickler/Wiklund defeated Bates/Smith (8-5) and Hoffman/White defeated Bliss/Ooms (8-4).
