ASBURY,
IOWA . . . Central College’s Andy Petersen
shot his second straight round of 2-under-par 70 to
extend his lead to 10 strokes for individual Medalist honors
at the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) men’s
golf Championship at The Meadows Golf Club.
Central
still has the top-four individuals, posted a third round score
of 297 and holds a 37 stroke lead with a 54-hole score of 887.
Simpson College is second following a third round 308 giving
the Storm a three-round total of 924. Buena Vista University
(314-310-311—935) and Luther College (312-312-311—935)
remain tied for third followed by Wartburg College (318-311-309—938).
Petersen
remains the only golfer under-par for the Tournament, entering
the final round at 3-under 213. Since the Iowa Conference went
to a 72-hole Championship in 1991, the lowest score by a Conference
Medalist was a 286 by Loras’ Pete Weber in 2005.
Buena
Vista’s Brad Nurse shot the day’s
second-best score, a 73 moving him into the top-20 with a three-round
score of 235. Central’s Joel Winters (75
on the day, 223 through 54-holes) is second overall, 10 strokes
behind Petersen followed by Brett Meyer (74,
224) and Isaac Rodenberg (78, 227). Simpson’s
David Combs tied Meyers for the third-best
round of the day and is tied with Rodenberg for fourth overall.
The
72-hole Championship concludes on Saturday at The Meadows. The
Conference team Champion receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA
Championships scheduled for May 15-18, 2007, at Hawthorns Golf
and Country Club in Fishers, Ind. and Prairie View Golf Club
in Carmel, Ind.
