WARTBURG LEADS AT MIDWAY POINT OF
IIAC WOMEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
CENTRAL'S PAULSON SETS 36-HOLE SCORING MARK, LEADS BY THREE STROKES

September 26, 2009

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA . . . Cool, overcast conditions led to lower scores during the second round of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women's Golf Championship Saturday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Central College's Sarah Paulson extended her individual lead and led a Dutch charge in the team race after firing an even-par round of 72. Paulson (73-72—145) leads by three strokes over Ellen Rickert of Wartburg (74-74—148).

Wartburg holds the 36-hole lead after posting a team total of 311-314—625. Central is second, just two shots back after firing a Championship-record 305 Saturday en route to a 327 total. Both the Knights and Dutch bettered the 36-hole midway mark of 628 set by Wartburg in 2006. Central's 305 was one stroke better that the previous record set by the Knights in the second round of the 2006 meet.

Simpson (335-322—657) is third followed by Luther (337-332—669). Coe (354-354—708), Buena Vista (368-348—716), Loras (382-341—723), and Dubuque (419-415—834) round out the field.

Individually, Wartburg's Daina Deery sits third, nine strokes behind Rickert at 157, followed by Central's Eva Downes in fourth at 158. Wartburg's Jordan Galles and Simpson's Megan Smith are tied for fifth at 160, with Luther's Emily Looft in seventh at 161. Simpson's Katie Vaux and Central's Nicole Wenstrand are tied for eighth at 162, while Simpson's Taylor Hillery, Central's Kaurie Kincaid, Wartburg's Kelsi Sawatzky, and Luther's Kate Traxler are in a four-way tie for tenth at 163.

With her round of 72, Paulson broke the 36-hole Championship scoring record of 147 set by Wartburg's Andrea Schiltz in 2006 and tied by Paulson last season. She already holds the 18-hole individual scoring mark with a 71 in round two last season.

The IIAC Championship continues Friday-Saturday, Oct. 2-3 at Oneota Golf and Country Club in Decorah. Tee times begin at 10:00 a.m. with players from Loras, Dubuque, and Cornell. Luther, Coe, and Buena Vista golfers will be paired together followed by players from Wartburg, Central, and Simpson. Saturday’s tee times will be set using the 54-hole individual leaderboard.

Complete 36-hole results can be found here.
